About the School

San Domenico School located in San Anselmo, California holds the unique distinction of being certified as California’s oldest certified independent school. Founded in 1850 by the Dominican Sisters, the school currently enrolls 680 boys and girls in Grades Kindergarten through Twelfth Grade. The expansive 515-acre campus serves a truly global student community and provides extensive options for studying, activities and adventure. As Marin County’s only K-12 school with boarding and day options in the high school, the unique program attracts students from diverse backgrounds and communities throughout the San Francisco Bay Area as well as more than 26 countries around the world.

While San Domenico is no longer a religious school, the school’s mission and educational program are firmly grounded in the Dominican philosophy to inspire students to develop character and integrity and to apply their knowledge to create a better world. The core values of study, reflection, community, and service are at the heart of all school programs and equip students with a lifelong passion for learning and a deeply global perspective. The faculty and staff encourage students to discover meaning, purpose and joy as part of every endeavor, and in turn, a San Domenico education creates more than just great students, it develops great people equipped with empathy, motivation, and knowledge to become tomorrow’s leaders. In keeping with San Domenico School’s mission and core values, San Domenico is a community of belonging where students, staff and families are dedicated to inclusion and respect for all.
