The Candidate Experience
Successful executive search work for independent schools has to be comprehensive. Search consultants discern the ‘DNA’ of a client school, interpret the current challenges, and bring to light opportunities. They recruit good-fit candidates who have the qualities, skill set and experience that make them ready for the leadership of that school. And they develop a strong partnership with the Search Chair(s) as they navigate the search process and the inevitable complexities that arise.
A feature of this work that too often is taken for granted by search consultants is the relationship with the candidate. Educators’ Collaborative takes great pride in the open and trusting relationships we foster with candidates. EC is proud of the tributes we receive from candidates who are successful in a search and those for whom the position was not the right fit. A few of their testimonials, capturing this gratifying aspect of our work, follow.
care deeply about finding the right fit for both the school and the candidate.”
“Now in search of my second headship I have always been given the advice and adhered to the belief that consultants are primarily focused on satisfying their school clients. This is, of course, understandable, but at times it can leave the candidate “out in the cold.” My recent experience as a candidate in several EC searches has revealed a middle ground where the consultant is committed to advocating for the best possible match which supports the important needs of both constituents. By listening, communicating frequently and effectively, and doing the research and follow-up necessary to prioritize the best possible match, EC consultants offer a level of service that is both exemplary and supports the notion that we are all part of the same independent school community. The candidate may or may not get the position, but they will always remember their experience moving through the process—EC understands this truth and works diligently to cultivate the long-term positive relationships with all parties!”
“The search process for Head of School positions can be stressful, exciting, and time-consuming. During the search, a relationship is formed between the search company and the candidate. Like most relationships, trust and open communication are critical. I have been through the process several times and without a doubt, Educators’ Collaborative is committed to developing and maintaining positive relationships with candidates. The EC consultants I have worked with know me well, are open and honest, and care deeply about finding the right fit for both the school and the candidate. No matter the outcome of the search, I have always felt valued and appreciated.”
“The Educators’ Collaborative team were incredible partners in my search for a Head of School position. They were focused on finding the best professional and personal fit for me and their communication was exceptional throughout the process. I could not be happier about the support and advice EC provided in making my search successful.”
Conducting executive searches is a complex, exciting, and challenging endeavor. Our close attention to our relationships with candidates pursuing a headship matters. It is that attention, together with all the other facets of the search process, that makes us best able to ‘position schools for success through effective leadership.’ We feel privileged to do this important work.
