Educators Collaborative is delighted to be assisting The Schenck School in their search for an Interim Head of School to begin as soon as possible. Located on 6 acres in the vibrant Buckhead area in the northern part of Atlanta near beautiful Chastain Park, the school welcomes 250 students each day.
This is a meaningful opportunity for a seasoned educator to lead a mission-driven, highly respected school with a long track record of transforming the lives of students with dyslexia, and to help sustaining the school’s culture and momentum during a period of transition.
Founded in 1959 by David Schenck, The Schenck School was established to provide intensive, research-based instruction for students with dyslexia, helping them overcome difficulties with reading and language skills through proven remediation strategies.
For more than 67 years, the mission has remained remarkably focused: build a solid foundation for dyslexic students and develop their rich potential. The strategy to accomplish this goal is the focused, accelerated remediation of dyslexia using the highly effective Schenck School Reading Model designed from the Orton-Gillingham Approach. More students benefit from the training their teachers receive from ReadSource, an affiliate nonprofit.
While reading and writing are central to the curriculum, The Schenck School offers a comprehensive educational program for kindergarten through sixth grade to help students develop intellectually and prepare them to thrive in school and in life.

The school holds accreditation from the Orton-Gillingham Academy (OGA), the Southern Association of Independent Schools (SAIS), and Cognia/SACS. It is also affiliated with the Georgia Association of Private Schools for Exceptional Children (GAPSEC). The Schenck School is a founding school and holds membership in the ALDS, the Association of LD Schools.

The Schenck School offers a competitive compensation package commensurate with experience, qualifications, and the scope of the role. The anticipated salary range is $225,000–$265,000, along with housing and relocation allowances and a comprehensive benefits package that includes health insurance, retirement contributions, professional development support, and other benefits consistent with those offered by leading independent schools in the region.
