Overview

Elgin Academy seeks a two-year Interim Head of School to promote and lead efforts to improve enrollment and stabilize operations. EA has a long and rich history of educating PreK-12 students in the suburban Chicago independent school marketplace. The long-standing tradition of academic excellence is the foundation of Elgin Academy.

Changing demographics and the Covid pandemic have contributed to a significant decline in enrollment, although current interest/enrollment in the Pre-K program is strong. The academic program is vibrant and serves a variety of learners. The campus is attractive, functional and well maintained. There is an endowment of five million dollars.

About the Position

The next leader of Elgin Academy will have the experience and personal skills to “hit the ground running” and assess/address/implement steps to improve and promote critical aspects of the program. They will understand current trends in education, will have an entrepreneurial vision and solid sense of marketing, and will have the high EQ needed to inspire faculty and build trust with parents, students and alums.

Doug Jennings and André Withers of Educators Collaborative are leading this search and welcome inquiries and suggestions of potential candidates. The starting date is 7/1/23, with selection of the Interim by late April. Salary will be competitive. Extending tenure beyond two years is a possibility. The Board of Trustees will be highly supportive of the HOS and will join in sincere efforts to sustain the EA tradition.
