NEWTON MONTESSORI SCHOOL
Newton Montessori School, located in Newton Centre, MA, is a diverse, collaborative community committed to fostering a love of learning in children 15 months through age 12 through the Montessori philosophy. Established in 2006, the School seeks a head of school to succeed Ellen Kelley, who was appointed six years ago. Newton Montessori School is a joyful, academically-rich learning environment in which each member is supported and challenged to discover strengths and explore opportunities in an atmosphere of respect for self, others, and the environment. Children, families, and staff are empowered to reach their fullest potential as passionate life-long learners who are confident independent thinkers, and caring, responsible contributors toward peace in our world. NMS offers a comprehensive program enriched by art, Latin, music, physical education, Spanish, theater and woodworking, and science and nature. The goal is for each student to develop a love of learning, a sense of responsibility, a level of inner discipline, self-confidence, a spirit of enthusiasm, comfortable independence, and true joy. From these roots, a strong student and positive contributor to the world will grow. In all classrooms, lead teachers have strong Montessori backgrounds. They have received teaching credentials from Montessori training programs around the world and are either AMS or AMI certified. At NMS, a co-teaching model is embraced, offering students a deeper and broader experience. Newton Montessori School is a member of the Association of Independent Schools in New England (AISNE) and the American Montessori Society (AMS) and is awaiting dual accreditation from these organizations following a rigorous two-year application and review process. The Board of Directors seeks an experienced educator able to provide dynamic, visionary leadership as the school anticipates the next step in its evolution. A bachelor’s and master’s degree are requirements for this position. Compensation will be competitive and commensurate with experience.
