Middleburg Academy

Middleburg AcademyMiddleburg, Virginia
Head of School Search for July 1, 2013

Middleburg Academy was founded in 1965 as Notre Dame Academy, a catholic boarding school for girls. Today the school – renamed Middleburg Academy in 2010 – is a fully independent co-ed day school no longer affiliated with the Catholic Church, and welcomes students of all faiths. Students come from six surrounding counties in Virginia and the approximately twenty international students per year reside with local host families.

The school offers a diverse array of courses. In addition to classes taught at the Honors, Accelerated Study and Advancement Placement levels, Middleburg also offers Dual Enrollment courses for college credit, taught by Middleburg teachers approved through the Virginia college and university system. Examples of Dual Enrollment courses include College Applied Calculus, College Biology, and AP/College English Composition and Literature.

In October 2011, Middleburg hosted a visiting accreditation team for which the school has undergone a comprehensive self-study process. In early 2011, the Board of Trustees initiated a strategic planning process that included the input and engagement of a broad cross-section of Middleburg Academy constituents. The resulting Plan includes six over-arching goals, along with several specific implementation strategies. The school has already begun to focus their attention on these six defining goals:

GOAL 1: LEADERSHIP EXCELLENCE

GOAL 2: EDUCATIONAL EXCELLENCE

GOAL 3: FACULTY AND ADMINISTRATIVE EXCELLENCE

GOAL 4: COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

GOAL 5: FINANCIAL SUSTAINABILITY

GOAL 6: CAMPUS AND FACILITIES ENHANCEMENT

The Board of Trustees seeks an inspiring educator who will honor the strengths of Middleburg Academy while challenging the School to continually improve. Most importantly, the next Head of School must embrace the School’s mission, become deeply engaged with the Middleburg community and make a long-term commitment to leading the School forward.
