Tuftonboro, NH
Boys Summer Camp
Ages 8-16
Executive Director for mid- to late-2013

YMCA Camp Belknap has served as a source of growth and development for thousands of boys since 1903. The dedicated staff and nearly 300 acres of fields and forests and one mile of magnificent shoreline in a sheltered bay on Lake Winnipesaukee anchor the summer experience that focuses on developing character, leadership, and a strong sense of community.

It is the mission of YMCA Camp Belknap, Inc. (www.campbelknap.org) to preserve the unique physical and spiritual environment where young men may forever build strong character, self esteem, individual maturity and community responsibility; to acquire for life the skill of leadership and the value of good stewardship; to honor the history and traditions which are the Belknap experience; and to be a contributing citizen in the community it serves and from which it receives its benefit.

An independent, chartered YMCA Camp Belknap offers more than 30 sports and activities including the YMCA progressive swim program. Belknap boys choose their own activities based on their likes, abilities and desire to learn. Camp Belknap offers two, four, six or eight week stays and also offers a post-season specialty week where boys can enjoy the Belknap experience with a concentration in basketball, tennis or sailing.

Camp Belknap has a deeply rooted conservation legacy and remains committed to operating environmentally aware and proactive programs to offer its campers and staff lifelong learning opportunities and a respect for the traditions that distinguish the Belknap experience.

While it boasts an impressive physical plant, Camp Belknap’s most distinguishing feature is its longstanding devotion to leadership development. For many years now, every cabin leader at Belknap got his start as a Belknap camper, and came through the ranks of camp leadership, featuring two summers of preparation between one’s last summer as a camper and first summer as a full-fledged cabin leader.

Each summer at Belknap features a team of senior staff members, including a Leadership Director, Program Directors, Waterfront Director, and the five division heads. Remaining staff is composed of cabin leaders, leaders-in-training, Leaders’ Corps members, as well as maintenance, kitchen, and office staff. Besides the Executive Director, there are two year-round maintenance professionals, an office manager/registrar, bookkeeper, and two consultants assisting development efforts.

Dedicated to serving the YMCA mission to put Judeo-Christian principles into practice through programs that build a healthy spirit, mind and body for all, YMCA Camp Belknap has assumed a key outreach role in supporting local community initiatives, in particular since Belknap received its independent charter status in 1997. In collaboration with area schools, churches and hospitals, Belknap has offered a range of off-season programs that support the YMCA mission, guided by an Outreach Director. Examples include art, fitness and wellness classes for children and adults, after-school and school-to-work programs for children and teens, Youth in Government, family programs, and women’s retreats, among others. While the structure of Belknap’s local outreach may shift in time, the next Director’s commitment to effective local partnerships and community programming must remain strong.

The Executive Director is the chief executive officer, reporting to the Board of Directors and responsible for oversight of all camp operations, including management of summer and year-round staff, off-season recruiting and hiring, supervision of facilities and overall financial stewardship.

As Camp Belknap’s sixth resident Director since its founding, the next Executive Director must embrace the role of chief steward of the Camp Belknap ethos, in a line starting in 1903 and continuing well into the future. Although it is expected that most candidates will apply as individuals, Belknap has a rich tradition of married couples serving as co-directors, and such couples who wish to apply are encouraged to do so. There is a preference for candidates with Belknap experience. The ideal candidate will possess the following attributes:

An astute manager of resources: human, physical, and financial;

An effective developer of people — attuned to promoting growth and accountability;

A track record of success as a leader, with a minimum of five years prior experience in a senior management role with a YMCA Residence Camp or related management experience;

A self-starter with solid multi-tasking and organizational ability, eager to take the initiative with limited outside supervision and minimal off-season staff;

An effective communicator and compelling storyteller, adept at forging close ties with those inside and outside the Belknap family;

An inspiring leader, able to maintain a visionary style of leadership, while rooted firmly in the role’s practical realities and requirements;

A servant leader who is quick to recognize opportunities to share decision-making with senior staff and leaders, and to be decisive when necessary;

An articulate, staunch defender and promoter of Camp Belknap’s enduring traditions;

An experienced leader within a nonprofit setting, ideally with experience developing an effective and  diverse nonprofit Board of Directors;

A networker and relationship-builder;

A role model for healthy, balanced living in body, mind, and spirit.

Compensation is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. Benefits include

year-round housing, full medical and YMCA retirement. The position is a full-time, twelve-month position beginning in mid- to late-2013.

Located in Webster Groves, a suburb of St. Louis, MO, Nerinx Hall High School educates 600+ girls in grades 9 – 12. Founded in 1924 by the Sisters of Loretto, the School is grounded in the belief that educated, caring, empowered young women are essential to our world. Thus, the School strives to help each young woman know herself and her world; offer her a loving community of faith that nurtures her individual gifts, enlivens her spirit, and reveals a world where hope prevails; and calls each graduate to deliberate Christian action in her life.

The School is part of a proud heritage that began with three pioneer women, Mary Rhodes, Ann Havern and Christina Stuart, who founded the Sisters of Loretto in 1812. The young community of Loretto was assisted and nurtured by the Reverend Charles Nerinckx, a missionary priest from Belgium after whom the School is named in tribute to his work. The Sisters of Loretto goal of educating children remains their goal today. As the country moved west, so did Loretto. From frontier Kentucky into the mid and southwest United States, the Sisters continued their involvement in Catholic education.

Nerinx Hall offers a challenging program that prepares students for college and beyond. Beginning in the Lockwood family home, and graduating its first class in 1925, the School moved to the red brick building next door where it is still located today. In 1996, the School added a new physics lab, a media center, and three classrooms, updated the chemistry lab and expanded and renovated the library. The largest expansion in the school’s history, The Heagney Theater with the Knaup Family Student Commons, was completed in 2007. The Theater, seating 375 has an orchestra pit, scene shop and dressing rooms. The 2007 addition also accommodates two art labs and the fine arts department office.

Embracing the premise that diversity enriches and trust empowers, Nerinx faculty challenge students to apply these beliefs to their future endeavors. Another major objective is to help the girls develop the self-discipline to master skills, be able to confidently analyze materials, and engage in learning for its own sake as well as for the greater good of the community

At Nerinx students are encouraged to join clubs, teams, and participate in the fine arts as a way to enrich their experience and interact with others. More than 30 clubs cater to academic, service and leadership interests. Nerinx athletes are dubbed “Markers,” and choose from thirteen sports offerings including swimming, soccer, track and field, lacrosse, diving, softball, field hockey, volleyball, tennis, golf, cross-country, basketball and racquetball.

Nerinx Hall High School is a member of the Archdiocese of St. Louis and ISSL (Independent Schools of St. Louis). The School is accredited by the North Central Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement (NCA CASI) and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement (SACS CASI). Both organizations are divisions of AdvancED.

The Board seeks an experienced educator and leader. The School will consider a Catholic man or woman, who fosters a strong liberal arts curriculum that prepares young women to be future leaders and models of the values of the Sisters of Loretto. A bachelor’s and master’s degree are requirements for this position. Compensation will be competitive and commensurate with experience.

Roycemore School

275 students, co-ed, Pre K – 12

Head of School for July, 2013

Roycemore School in Evanston, Illinois seeks a new Head of School to assume responsibility on July 1, 2013. Roycemore is a Pre-K through grade 12, college prep, co-ed, day, and non-denominational school. The school is a closely knit educational community serving Chicago and the North Shore suburban areas. In January 2012, the 96 year-old school re-located to a new campus in downtown Evanston, which is easily accessible to both the city and suburbs, via public transportation. The school enjoys a long-term, close relationship with nearby Northwestern University, with qualified Roycemore students taking courses at the college, and NU students doing work-study at the school. The new 2.4-acre campus features 25 classrooms, a 7,800 sq. ft. gymnasium, a fine arts wing, music and theater spaces, and easily accessible technology. www.roycemoreschool.org/

“Inspiring Excellence – Celebrating individuality” Roycemore School’s relatively small size supports its mission to ensure that every student is well known, highly-valued and challenged to do his or her personal best in a wide variety of endeavors. The school culture is welcoming, positive and inclusive. Students, teachers, and administrators work together to maintain a community that reflects the school’s core values: respect for others, appreciation of differences, and a commitment to academic excellence, in a challenging but non-competitive environment. Enrollment includes 39% students of color. There are 34 faculty members and 8 administrators, 23 of whom hold advanced degrees.

Head of School Joseph A. Becker has served the school with distinction for 37 years and has led the initiatives that have made the school strong and its graduates highly successful. The next Head of School will lead Roycemore in an exciting new phase of growth, while embracing the mission of independent education and honoring the school’s long legacy of academic excellence.

Brooklandville, MD
Coed K-4; boys 5-12; 790 students

Headmaster for July 2013

St. Paul’s School, founded in 1859, enrolls boys and girls in the Lower School (grades K-4), and boys in the Middle (grades 5-8) and Upper Schools (grades 9-12). There is a total enrollment of 790 students. The School’s mission is: “Seek truth, knowledge and excellence; live by faith, compassion and integrity.” In the 1950’s, the School moved to its current 85-acre campus in Brooklandville, about 10 miles north of downtown Baltimore.

St. Paul’s philosophy is rooted in the belief that each student may achieve individual excellence. Thus the faculty is committed to extending itself to encourage and support each student in the pursuit of the goals set forth in the School’s mission. The School believes that the goals of education are to sharpen the mind, ennoble the spirit, and challenge the body. The faculty inspires and educates so that students can achieve their best in academic, artistic, athletic and extracurricular endeavors. They teach students to question, consider, test, evaluate and then question again, as they lead them to confront the moral and intellectual challenges of the modern world and embrace lives of learning. An Episcopal school, St. Paul’s fosters the spiritual growth of students of all faiths. Students are prepared to attend the best colleges in the country.

The School’s facilities are numerous. There are separate buildings for each of the three divisions with each set of buildings containing classrooms, libraries, and science labs designed appropriately for each age level. Additional buildings include the chapel, the athletic complex, a dining hall, fine and performing arts complex, and numerous playing fields. St. Paul’s School for Girls is located next to SPS, and the two schools, while separate, share some facilities and programs for the benefit of the students.

DIRECTOR

Cold Spring School (CSS), a progressive coed day school in New Haven, CT for 125 children in preschool through grade six, seeks a Director, effective July 1, 2013. The mission of CSS is to challenge children to become self-reliant, curious, and resourceful problem solvers with the academic and social skills to engage constructively and ethically in our diverse, changing world. The underlying philosophy of the program is that children learn best when they are actively involved in the educational process in a child-centered learning environment enriched by socio-economic and ethnic diversity.

CSS’s campus is located in an urban waterfront setting in the Fairhaven neighborhood of New Haven. Included on campus are a former factory and residences that have been renovated with environmentally sound technology to house classrooms, meeting spaces, and art and music studios. With direct access to the Mill River, New Haven Harbor, and a local park, the CSS campus was chosen to provide ample opportunity for children to learn in the heart of a working neighborhood. CSS faculty make superb and creative use of the school’s environment to inform curriculum and to stimulate collaborative learning.

Founded in 1982, Cold Spring School has enjoyed exceptionally strong leadership from two Directors serving ten and twelve years, respectively, and is currently being led by a two-year interim Director. The Board seeks a dynamic individual to embrace the school’s mission, to be an inspiring and effective leader, and to partner with the school community in securing and shaping the future of Cold Spring School.

To submit an application, email the following documents in one Word document to Jean Lamont (jlamont@educatorscollaborative.com) and Jim Maggart (jmaggart@educatorscollaborative.com).
