UNIS is a K-12, coeducational day school with 1518 students serving children of persons officially connected with the United Nations and children of other persons desirous of obtaining an international education conforming to the spirit and principles contained in the Charter of the United Nations.  The rigorous academic curriculum, based on the International Baccalaureate (IB) program, includes the study of eight languages in addition to English, and places great emphasis on community service, physical education and an appreciation of the arts. UNIS graduates meet the entry requirements of the foremost colleges and universities worldwide.

Students are enrolled on two campuses: The Manhattan campus, a spacious building overlooking the East River at 25th Street, enrolls approximately 1,350 students in grades K-12; The Queens campus, in a quiet, long-established residential community, accommodates approximately 180 students in grades K-8.

UNIS students represent 115 countries and speak more than 85 languages as their mother tongues. Students affiliated with the UN and the international community account for 80% of the student body; 20% of the students are host country nationals. UNIS faculty and staff come from 75 countries.

UNIS seeks a Head of School with the following qualifications:

Professional Qualifications:
•Substantial experience in international education;
•Proven administrative experience in a K-12 school with an international curriculum;
•Teaching experience in a college preparatory program;
•Proven track record of problem solving and team management;
•Skill in budgeting and finance;
•Experience in fund-raising;
•Experience in human resource management and recruitment of staff;
•Knowledge of the accreditation process;
•Familiarity with Information Technology;
•Knowledge of the IB program;
•Ability to work democratically with the Board and community at large;
•Minimum of a Masters Degree.

•A consensus-building, participatory management style;
•Sensitivity to cultural and ethnic diversity;
•Cross cultural openness and understanding;
•Excellent communication skills, both written and oral;
•Well-developed interpersonal skills;
•Professional and personal integrity;
•Strong team leadership;
•Ability to delegate appropriately.
