Director of Major and Planned Giving to take office immediately
Founded in 1961, St. Andrew’s School is a co-educational, K-12, day and boarding college preparatory school with an enrollment of 1100 students located in Boca Raton, FL. As an Episcopal school, whose motto is Honor Above All, St. Andrew’s welcomes students of all faiths, customs, cultures and beliefs. Situated five miles from the Atlantic Ocean, the campus consists of nearly 80 acres and twenty buildings of Bahamian colonial design. Boca Raton is located at the mid-point of a 70-mile long metropolitan area extending from West Palm Beach to Miami and is home to 200,000 residents, a state university, a liberal arts college, and many cultural opportunities.
The Director of Director of Major and Planned Giving will play an integral role in ensuring that the School achieves its annual and long-range financial goals as articulated in the School’s Strategic Plan. S/he will have primary responsibility for planning, management, coordination and evaluation of an aggressive major gifts effort including a planned giving program. The successful candidate must have demonstrated ability in identifying, cultivating and soliciting gifts at a leadership level, including planned giving prospects, and in completing deferred gift agreements including unitrusts, annuities, insurance, securities, real estate, life income gifts and donor advised funds.
The Director of Major and Planned Giving reports to the Associate Headmaster for Institutional Advancement and is a member of an 8-10 member advancement team.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Planning, management, coordination and evaluation of an aggressive major gifts program
Development and implementation of a planned giving marketing program, including articles for the St. Andrew’s School Bulletin.
Identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of major and planned giving prospects
Responsibility for the creation and execution of major and planned giving goals in the Development Plan.
Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Associate Head for Institutional Advancement
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree
Knowledge of financial and estate planning preferred
Proven track record in securing major and planned gifts
Broadbased knowledge of development and best practices in not-for-profit fundraising
Ability to work effectively as an advancement team member, and with board members, alumni, fundraising volunteers, administrators, faculty, staff, and financial and legal advisors of potential donors
Excellent interpersonal skills
Strong communication skills, both orally and in writing
Comfort with public speaking and presentations, including use of Powerpoint
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word and Excel), Lexus Nexus and other fundraising software
A high degree of professionalism, sound judgment, awareness, and discretion while maintaining complete confidentiality
High energy, consistent follow through and an exemplary work ethic
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, handling multiple assignments in a busy department
Superior organizational skills with demonstrated ability to set and achieve ambitious goals and meet deadlines
Compensation and Benefits:
St. Andrew’s School salaries rank in the top 25% of NAIS schools and has a generous retirement plan and health benefits. (Is there tuition remission for faculty children? If so, is it full or partial?) The salary of the Director of Major and Planned Giving is competitive and based on years of experience and expertise. It is a full-time, twelve month position beginning immediately or no later than July 1, 2008.
