Founded in 1869 by pioneering educator, Agnes Irwin, and located 12 miles west of Philadelphia, The Agnes Irwin School is an independent college preparatory day school for girls, who hail from 75 zipcodes throughout Greater Philadelphia. Twenty percent of the girls are from diverse backgrounds. A faculty of 80 gifted educators teach, advise, coach and mentor 673 students. Over half have taught at Agnes Irwin for more than a decade. An average class size is 15 students. Core subjects and electives include English, modern and classical languages, mathematics, history, science, and the fine and performing arts. The School offers Advanced Placement courses in 13 subjects. Physical education begins in kindergarten and interscholastic competition begins in 7th grade. More than 90 percent of the student body competes in one or more of 12 sports including basketball, crew, cross-country, field hockey, golf, lacrosse, soccer, softball, squash, swimming, tennis, and volleyball.
Accredited by both the Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools and the Pennsylvania Association of Private Academic Schools, The Agnes Irwin School is situated on an attractive suburban campus of 18 acres with easy access to the rich educational, cultural and historical attractions of Philadelphia.
